I mix my pizza dough in my bread maker. But I'm sure you can do it all by hand if you don't have one. I like it cause while it's mixing the dough I can do other things around the house. Or prepare other ingredients. Either way it helps me out.
PIZZA DOUGH
Here's the ingredients I used:
10 oz. warm water
3/4 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. applesauce
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
2 cups unbleached white flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp active dry yeast.
If you are using a bread maker to mix your dough place the ingredients in the container in the order listed. Turn on to the dough setting and your off. When done, knead, adding flour until no longer sticky. Then roll it out to the size of pizza your wanting.
PIZZA SAUCE
I also make homemade pizza sauce. The store bought stuff contains oil.
15 oz. can tomato sauce
6 oz. can tomato paste
1 Tbsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. minced onion
Place all in a bowl and mix well. I only use enough to make the pizza and freeze the rest in a mason jar. We don't use it ofter that's why I go ahead and freeze the leftover sauce.
TOPPINGS
3 onions, sliced
2 bell peppers, sliced
Water saute (or use broth) until soft. Let cool.
I also use homemade broth as the ones from the store contain oil! I'll do a post on that later. This one is about pizza!
Other toppings: sliced tomato and torn spinach.
Use can also add whatever you like.
Cheez Sauce
3/4 cup water
1 Tbsp. white miso paste
1 Tbsp. tahini
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. white pepper
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
1 cup leftover mashed potatoes
Place all in a high powered blender and puree until smooth. This will be a thick cheez sauce. I didn't use all the sauce. I only used what I needed on top of the pizza and put the rest in the fridge. Spread around to cover the toppings.
We decided to try this on the grill. We bought these non-stick grill sheets and put it on that. Some people grill at a high temp but they also precook their dough before putting any goodies on it. We didn't. We used straight up uncooked raw dough. So we suggest grilling on a lower temp and just keep an eye on it. This turned out wonderful and keeps us from heating up the house in summer to use the oven. Win win in my book.
So get out your ingredients and make your healthy pizza!
Until next time. ENJOY!
